The new study published by the Archives of General Psychiatry and reported by TIME Magazine involved research on more than 1,800 children. It found that women who used the drugs in the year prior to giving birth were twice as likely to have children burdened with autism. Those women who used the SSRI drugs in the first trimester of pregnancy were four times as likely to have babies with ASD.
Some of the most common SSRI antidepressant drugs include, Zoloft, Celexa, Prozac, Paxil, Sarafem and Lexapro.
