Unseaworthiness
The Jones Act provides that an injured seaman can recover damages if it can be shown that the vessel on which he was injured was unseaworthy. An employer has a duty to furnish a vessel that is reasonably fit for its intended use. The unseaworthy condition may be a physical defect with the ship which caused the injury or could even be that the ship was improperly manned or operated. The law provides the injured seaman with important rights when injured on the job.
If you have been injured on a vessel due to the condition of the ship or the method in which it was operated, you should contact a board certified injury attorney to discuss your case.
